I've told you before about my packing problems. I am THE WORST packer! Everyone always says "Oh, just bring a couple of t-shirts and pair of sneakers- you'll be fine!" Um, are you kidding? Have you ever seen me wear a t-shirt... or sneakers? These are the only sneakers I would wear in public, and I am skeptical they'll make it through security. Well, I'm finally doing it... I am only going to bring a carry-on. No bag checking for me! This will either be the best or worst idea I've ever had. My rollers alone are going to take up half the bag...never mind shoes. I'm headed to NOLA (for the first time- yippee!) where it's normally warm right now. Except for that it's not. So, add to my already too full luggage jackets & other "layering pieces" and I think we may have a bit of a problem. Not to mention, I've determined that I have absolutely nothing suitable to wear that I already own, so I've been doing daily trips to TJ Maxx, Target, the mall and any other close-by big chain, affordable retailer I can think of. After some painstaking planning, I think I've manged to fit everything I need into one very full carry-on. The liquid limitations is the hardest part! Check out the before (top) and after (bottom) below!
OK, let's forget the boring Oscars and talk about the after-parties! The stars were a little more daring once they let their hair down. Some of my faves below! (No surprise- Nicole Richie makes the list)
Nicole Richie in Roberto Cavalli
Jennifer Lawrence in Calvin Klein
Mena Suvari in Lisa Ho
Analeigh Tipton in Elie Saab
And there you have it. With little more than a fizzle...awards season has come to a close with the 2013 Oscars. Is it just me, or was the red carpet particularly bland this year? Sure there were sparkles a la Naomi Watts, but everything seemed a little dull. Honestly, one of my favorite looks from the night was Jane Fonda!! So happy to see a little color, and my lord, does that woman look fabulous! Loving the bold shoulder, too. Versace (surprisingly) had another one of my favorite looks from the night with Halle Berry's structured gown. Probably the best dressed overall for the night, though, was Jessica Chastain. Total glamor! Speaking of best dressed; Anne Hathaway was not. I mean, we don't even need to talk about it- I know you already know, but what WAS that? Other mentionables: Helen Hunt in H&M. Pretty cool, but I've never seen that dress at *my* H&M. Is it in a secret section somewhere?? Also noteworthy...love, love, loving Giuliana Rancic's new short hair. She looks so much more polished, and I actually think she looks younger! While I would have loved to see a lot more color here are some of my favorite looks from the night. Who were your favorites?
Jane Fonda in Versace
Halle Berry in Versace
Stacy Keibler in Naeem Khan
Jessica Chastain in Armani Prive
Charlize Theron in Dior
Maria Menounos in Romoma Keveza
Is it just me, or does this winter seem extra long? Come on, end already! I really need something to cheer me up, but I've been refraining from buying new spring clothes, knowing how far off the warm weather is, but I absolutely refuse to buy any more bulky, boring winter clothes! PS- these are the same clothes I was over the moon about approx. 2 months ago. What can I say? Fashion is fickle. Luckily, my friends at Piperlime sent me (and all of you) an email- with 20% off site wide for Valentine's Day. I think I deserve a little love- don't you? All you have to do is enter the code XOXO at check out. Here's what I'm thinking of getting!
Tinley Road Colored Vegan Leather Tee (comes in other colors!)
Sleek, sleek, sleek was the name of the game at the Grammy Awards last night! Well, sleek and cutouts. There are always a few crazy contenders, but I thought the overall look of the night was toned down- and actually pretty sophisticated as far as the Grammys go. I have to give it to Rihanna. I thought she looked beautiful, and was happy to see her long hair back. Her simple look took a lot of restraint, but who needs to be loud when you have your ex-boyfriend on your arm who nearly killed you? But, my fave dress of the night was not from a musician at all (although she is rock royalty). It was Kelly Osbourne! Loved the simple black dress with cool cutouts. I thought she nailed it, and I'm so happy that she is able to let her love of fashion shine through! Here's a look at some of my other faves from the night!
Kelly Osbourne in Paula Ka- love, love, love!
Rihanna in Alaia ("It's an Alaia!"...Clueless... anyone?)
Kelly Rowland in Georges Chakra Couture. OK, I know- kinda crazy- but if you've got it- flaunt it!
Florence Welch in Givenchy. She kind of looks like a beautiful reptile.
Karlie Kloss in Michaela Kors. A little plain, but really lovely.
I am sooo ready for spring. Normally, winter doesn't bother me too much, but something about this past month has me wondering if I am one of the many SAD sufferers. Of course, by now you know my instant (and free!) pick me up is to window shop. Usually a good hour of phantom online shopping will do the trick. Oh come on, you do it, too! You know, go on J Crew, add that full priced skirt into your shopping cart, only to never check out. It's a thrill (yea, I live on the edge)! But, I needed a more powerful potion this weekend as temperatures dipped into single digits, so I headed to Anthropologie --in person. The heavily scented store was exactly what I needed. Poppy spring cardigans, flower motif scarves, sparkly jewelry and yes, those candles! Still being the dead of winter, I didn't really intend to buy anything, until I spotted a shirt that had the perfect wear now/wear later appeal! Enter this mint-colored corduroy button-down. Great for layering, or laid back weekends from now until flowers finally start to pop. Best part? It's on sale! Now that's what I call a mint-er wonderland!
I've talked about these amazing Valentino "Rockstud" pumps before. In fact, they are kind of all I can think about. But, by now, we know my story. Champagne taste, beer budget. Of course, I'd never be caught dead drinking beer, so my shopping M.O. is all about finding a happy medium. While perusing T.J. Maxx (aka my form of meditation) I came across a pair of totally cute and totally practical Steve Madden nude pumps with the edgy hardware I crave. They are definitely scratching that itch I've been having for studded shoes. While I was on a roll I swung over to Target and also grabbed these abso adords sneakers that I am going to wear to death on the weekends. All together I spent about $75... Compared to about $900. Done.

Hooray- It's February! That means we are getting closer to spring, my upcoming trip to New Orleans for a friend's wedding, and of course Valentine's day. And speaking of hearts, February is also heart health month! It kicks off today with the annual Go Red for women campaign. I am proudly sporting my red apparel, with proceeds of this nationwide event going to the American Heart Association. What else I love about this cause? An excuse to shop (as if I needed one)! Macy's has teamed up with the American Heart Association, and is having a "wear red sale". You get a discount and help support The American Heart Association. Just enter code "RED" at online checkout! Take a look at the dress I wore today below, and check out some other red options here!
