Once in a while there is a dress so fabulous that every "it" girl in Hollywood must have it. Such is the case with Stella McCartney's black sheer polka dot Lucia dress. The "Lucia" has been spotted on everyone from Kate Winslet and Jennifer Lopez to Jane Fonda and everyone in between. Stunning? Yes. Worth the price tag? Your call. Luckily, since this dress has found a permanent home at the step and repeat, many similar looks have been popping up at different price points. Just call me an "it" girl!

I hate packing. HATE it. It should be my favorite thing because I love picking out my outfits and accessorizing, but instead I end up panicking that I won't have enough or the weather could change. In short: it's overwhelming. I'm headed to Las Vegas for the 1st time next week and am pretty much clueless as how to pack. In an attempt to be more focused I've already started organizing (a major accomplishment for a procrastinator!) and have come up with a few key pieces I think will take me through hot desert days and chilly nights on the strip.
Daytime look.I plan to pair this with a loose swingy blazer in AC or flats if I am walking far.
Striped Top: H&M
Jeans: TJ Maxx
Shoes: Nine West (circa 2010)
The focal point here is the adorable red top. Note the scalloped bottom- so cute! I plan to pair it with coral jeans during the day and tuck into this striped skirt for night.
Jeans: TJ Maxx
These are a few tops I think I can wear a couple different ways- with jeans or with shorts depending on the weather. The lace one looks so much better on!
Striped Top: H&M
Lace Top: Nordstrom
Zipper Pocket Tee: Nordstrom (BP section)
I'm bringing along a couple of easy to wear dresses. Mostly short and A-line for evening.
Striped Dress: Matty M via TJ Maxx
Cream Dress: French Connection
Flower Print Dress: BeBe
Makeup remover, reading material, suntan lotion- and I'm ready to go! Vegas Baby!
Although the chilly weather has crept back in for now, last week we were treated to a sneak peek of summer! On the East Coast summer means one thing: iced coffee season! When the temperatures start to hit the 60 degree mark you'll see it. Sunglasses on, windows rolled down, music blaring and lines out the door at Dunkin' Donuts. When it comes to coffee Dunkin' Donuts is king in New England, and with onset of spring weather they introduced some new caramel flavors. While that's lovely, I've been much more captivated by the commercial for said beverages. It's fabulous! Three girls show up to an event wearing the same ADORABLE dress, but are relieved to find out that although they look identical, are all drinking a different coffee flavor. Cute, no? Anyway, after the commercial starting airing lots of ladies at work began wondering where the adorable dress was from. It's a darling Nanette Lepore number that screams spring and happens to be on sale. I'll cheers my Dunkin' iced to that!

Whether you are an American Idol fanatic (like myself) or not, it's always fun to watch the transformation the contestants go through to go from "singer" to "star"! This week, the gang over at Idol brought in celebrity designer Tommy Hilfiger to style the top 10. Being a Rhode Islander now, I'm team EVP all the way! Erika Van Pelt went through a DRAMATIC transformation this week. I think her new hair color might be a tad severe- but her new look overall definitely screams rock star- and that's a good thing! You may not be ready for such a dramatic look yourself, but it's easy to incorporate a couple of edgy looks into your wardrobe. Hands down, my fave part of Erika's look was her studded leather jacket. It's a key piece that can take you so far- from daytime in jeans to evening thrown over a dress to "toughen up" the look. It's a breeze to replicate EVP's look- or as JLo, Randy and Steven would say: make it your own!
When it comes to style First Lady Michelle Obama knocks it out of the park every time! Often mixing high and low end pieces- even known to take secret trips to Target- there's nothing not to love about her style! Mrs O's most recent spot-on look is from her appearance on Letterman. Per usual she is on trend but appropriate with a colorblock peplum dress from Preen. This particular frock is not yet available for retail, but the colorblock trend is soooo easy to replicate- and for practically dirt cheap!
This Matty M dress gives the same illusion of the Preen dress for (what I imagine is) a fraction of the cost- it's even the same colors. You could buy it here for $130- OR...
I spotted the same exact dress at my local TJ Maxx for 50 bucks. I picked up the orange & pink one- but at the price- I could have bought both! You don't have to be a 1st lady to dress like one!
Spring has officially sprung! The weather is warm and wonderful here on the East Coast- the perfect time to start thinking about adding a little color to your closet! By now you've heard about Pantone's color of the year: "Tangerine Tango", or tang tang, as I like to call it. It's described as a vivacious reddish orange- certain to add a little pep to you step! Truth be told you make think "orange" and freak out, but it is shockingly easy to wear, whether you incorporate it into your accessories or go bold with a full on orange crush!
We also recently did a segment on The Rhode Show incorporating this hot hue for the warmer weather. Check out personal stylist Jill Marinelli's picks for tang tang here!
I have a confession. I'm a teenage girl living in an adult body. I wear "lip smackers", paint glitter on my nails, and watch "Pretty Little Liars" on ABC family. Part murder-mystery and part Babysitters Club, the show appeals to all my senses; including my fashion sense. Since today we will finally find out who "A" is- I decided to do a little detective work of my own... on Spencer's jacket. You know the one I'm talking about- fabulous trench with leather sleeves? It's had mixed reviews, but I personally love it. Sadly, the price point is, well, crazy- so I've found some solid lookalike options!
Have you guys watched "Fashion Star" yet? It's the latest designing show on NBC that's part rock concert, fashion show, and Project Runway. As a die-hard Project Runway fan I was skeptical, but my love of Nicole Richie won out in the end. How can you not be obsessed with her? She transformed over the past few years into a bonafide style icon. My one, and so far only, House of Harlow (Nicole's jewelry line) piece of jewelry was a gift. So you can imagine my excitement when I popped into a TJ Maxx with "the runway" to find a slew of "Winter Kate" apparel. Winter Kate is Nicole's bohemian-chic clothing line. The runway at TJ Maxx is key. KEY! They are only in select locations (all listed on their website) and contain high end fashion. Ladies, seriously, this is not a joke. I'm talking Prada, Fendi, Marc Jacobs, Alexander McQueen- my gosh I could go on and on! It's euphoric! Anyway, my point is this: you can always find fashion for less. Check out all the Winter Kate I found that day below. Also, watch Fashion Star with Nicole Richie and let me know what you think. I'm rooting for her! (obviously)
Being fashionable, on-trend, and on budget isn't easy. That's why I've made it my job to become a fashion detective! Picture it: me, Burberry trench, Zanotti heels, jewels galore and a magnifying glass. Ok, that's half true. My trench is really from a consignment shop, my shoes are from TJ Maxx, and my jewelry is probably from a church fair. You see, that's what a fashion detective does. I stalk fashion. In magazines, on TV, on the street, at work. I'm obsessed. so much so, that anytime I saw something I liked- be it on a stranger or a friend- I found myself asking "where's it from?" until one day it dawned on me, I can not be the only person doing this!? And just like that "wears it from?" was born.
