Ok. Brace yourselves. I met Nicole Richie. Yes, THAT Nicole Richie. As in fashion icon, designer, all around adorable and hilarious Nicole Richie. Anyone who knows me, and even those who don't, know that I've had a longtime love (obsession?) for Nic. I won't bore you with the details, but trust me, it runs deep. So, when I found out she was going to be in Boston I had to be there. Nicole was hosting the opening of The National Jean Company on Newbury St. and the event handlers were nice enough to put me on the list after a little begging. Before you know it, Nic and I were chatting about bangs and instantly became best friends. Or so this is how it happened in my mind. Regardless, this is truly a night I'll never forget, so thank you for reading this self-indulgent post and please...act impressed. Me and Nicole Richie both in Winter Kate. Yes, I just recently posted about both Victoria Beckham and Jennifer Lopez, but it's what the people want! I just received a signal (picture a lightning bolt that transforms into a dress across the sky in the dark of night) from a reader- wanting to know about the dress JLo was wearing the night they saved Jessica. PS- did the judges save the right person? Should they have waited and saved Colton? I digress. Back to dresses. Ms. Lopez was rocking a vibrant Victoria Beckham dress from her spring ready to wear collection. But, just in case a couple thousand dollars isn't quite your price range, I found a couple other looks you may like too! We've loved her since she exploded stateside as Posh Spice in the Spice Girls. Since the beginning she was always a fashion icon. In past years she's morphed her sense of style into her own line of clothing- which is in a word "may-jah." Now she's the celebrities that other celebrities go to for edgy yet classic pieces. Her garments are gorgeous for sure- although not exactly affordable. Enter "The Pretty Dress Company." They're a British (cheerio!) dress site with designs that will have you looking like a few thou- for a few hund or less. Makes you wanna zig-a-zag-ah! Victoria Beckham in her own Design
My love for Nicole Richie has already been documented here on the blog, but just to make it clear I'm OBSESSED WITH NICOLE RICHIE. To me, she epitomizes cool. She's always so effortlessly put together and truly nails the BoHo vibe. I hate to even call it that because what Nic does is SO much cooler. I could gush about Nicole Richie all day- in fact, some days I have! Nicole's look today comes from her recent appearance promoting Fashion Star at the summer press conference for NBC. She's keeping it basic in black but edgy with the leather cut-outs. What I particularly love about the look is that anyone can wear it. Seriously, anyone. Go ahead, think of everyone you know right now. Can you think of anyone you know who couldn't rock this? From cubicle to cocktails, this is a look worth investing in. Ever since the show "The OC" ended there has been a tiny hole in my heart left by one Miss Summer Roberts. In my world, Summer was the best thing since Lisa Turtle. Funny, quick-witted, fashionable - all the things I look for in a fake TV best friend. As I tried to fill the void left by Summer I discovered that Rachel Bilson, the actress who played Summer, was a pretty good substitute. I was enamored by everything she did from her Q&A column in InStyle Magazine to what she wore walking her dog. I'm not kidding- I really know what she wears to walk her dog- don't judge. Turns out, she's much more than a cute actress- she's kind of a style icon- and she's using her powers for good. Rach is part of the design team that makes up shoemint.com, an online source for on-trend shoes at affordable prices. Recently, Rachel also began playing my *new* TV best friend Zoe Hart on the CW show Hart of Dixie. In a role that's not so far off from Summer (still funny, quick-witted and fashionable) Rachel is also cross promoting her stylish kicks. In this week's episode I spotted Zoe running around the South in shoes from (where else?) shoemint.com. Hey, if they're good enough for Rachel *and* Zoe - they're good enough for me! Here's why I love JLo. She goes from Jennifer Lopez to Jenny from the block in 2 seconds flat. Last week on American Idol we saw her rock a black bandage dress by Catherine Malandrino. I'm pretty sure no one has ever looked better in the history of the world. If I were her I'd wear tight dresses and high heels 24/7. But, that's so not Jenny from the block. A couple days later Lopez was snapped in some comfy sweats and eating a bag of potato chips. Could I love her anymore? I picture her in her "off-duty" look driving around in Fiat. Gucci edition of course. Jennifer Lopez on "Idol" in Catherine Malandrino Catherine Malandrino Fall 2012 Collection Jennifer Lopez in Sweatpants and hoodie from Peace Love World
The pretty peplum pack is taking over! So just what are these peplums you've been hearing so much about? Well, lucky for you I looked it up: a flared ruffle attached to the waist of a jacket, bodice, etc. I guess the real question here is why? Well, apparently the look originated in ancient Greece, but my best answer? Because my skirt looked boring without it! Peplums have a definite retro feel for sure, but don't let that stop you from giving them a try. Countless celebs have been rocking the "peps" lately, from Emma Stone to Jennifer Hudson and everyone in between, so you can be sure there is a peplum to fit your own personal style. In fact, don't stop at dresses and skirts- try a blouse if you just want to dip your piggy toe into peplum. No, I'm not talking about about the porn star Linda Lovelace. I'm talking about the trend that you can't escape. Actually, it's not really a trend but a classic that's just being interpreted in new ways. I'm my own inspiration today wearing a lace top I picked up a couple weeks ago to update my spring wardrobe. On the hanger it looked kind of drab, but I tried in on anyway and was actually quite surprised by its adorable factor. Here's what I'm really liking about lace: it conveys everything I want people to think when they look at me; edgy and cool but somehow sweet and adorable all at the same time. You want to be sure to stick with just one lace item at a time to keep it subtle and pretty, and as long as it's not too tight (lace can go from class to trash in 2 seconds flat!) you'll be good to go! The top I'm wearing today from Nordstrom.
Hello. My name is Ashley. I'm a stripe-a-holic. Now that I've come clean, let me try to explain. I fought stripes for a long time after years of being told they'd make me look fat. I still feel a little shameful everytime I eye a new striped piece. Skirts, tops, blazers, dresses- even shoes! I can't stop. But here's the thing- they don't make you look fat. They make you look cool! I don't know why something I sported as a little girl now makes me feel edgy- but magically it does. Since it's spring I'm focused in on the striped dress. So versatile it can take you to work, for a walk in the park, or even on an impromptu road trip. If feels fresh and ready for fun! Stripe Stars. This dress worn by numerous celebrities last summer/fall is a knockout from Express. In fact, I own it. Unfortunately they no longer have this exact color, but a very similar one here. Go ahead- get it.
