Over the Memorial Day weekend I took advantage of the numerous sales going on, and saluted my freedom to shop! While poking around Nordstrom I saw a dress that reminded me of Stella McCartney's so-called "Miracle Dress". I was too scared to try it on (for fear of looking like a sausage), but now I can't stop think about it! So, I decided to do some fashion detecting to find similar dresses. The trick behind these looks is that the seams curve inward- giving an illusion of being slimmer than you really are. Of course, this only works if the dress fits you well- and you aren't revealing VPL (visible panty lines), among other things, for all the world to see. This season, I'm also seeing these silhoutte dresses paired with the scuba trend. Again, I'm hesitant...yet, intrigued. Regardless of whether you're gonna jump on this crazy miracle, scuba, colorblock trend, I've rounded up a few options for you. In the meantime, what do we think about the "Trouve" dress I can't stop thinking about...should I dive in??

Combine my absolute, all-time obsession of Britney Spears, add in a dash of a singing competition show, and a pinch of killer style ...and you have today's overly-excited post about the new judges of the X Factor. Let me get you up to speed for anyone living under a rock. Pop princess Britney Spears and former Disney darling Demi Lovato were recently named the new hosts of The X Factor USA replacing Paula Abdul and Nicole Scherzinger. Full disclosure, I'd probably post about Brit-brit's outfit even if I didn't like it; that's how much I love her; but in this case- I'm obsessed! She knocked it out of the park in this coral colored dress, with her freshly colored blonde locks, and, yes, a much needed manicure. She looks well-rested and ready to reclaim her title as a mega-star (as if she ever left)! Surprisingly- I'm equally as obsessed with Demi's outfit. I think she looks adorable and age appropriate. I'm also really feeling her ballerina bun- which you can easily achieve yourself! Check out my pal, Newport Stylephile's blog post ab the beauty tools many are using to achieve the simple and elegant look! And of course my fave part ab Demi's adorbs dress is that it is also affordable! Throw on a little leather (or faux) biker jacket and you have the prefect look for a night out...or to judge a singing competition.

Knowing that I am obsessed with all things fashion and shopping, my friend came to me with a shoe conundrum. she is looking for "affordable and cute CLOSED toe summer shoe to pair with capris or skirts". She's also looking for something comfortable that she can walk in all day at work. I will admit, most of this season's styles (if not flat sandals) are high, high, high heels! But, even the most devout heel lovers can admit, sometimes they just aren't practical! Plus, a heel in the medium range is more work-appropriate, especially in a corporate environment. Even with a lower height you can still incorporate the wedge/espadrille/cork trend- all of which are huge for this season!
Coconuts Hepburn- comes in several colors- including some stripes!
Nine West Beeout- LOVE these as a very work appropriate look with a nod to summer. Very Similar pair that's even cheaper here!
Envy Closed-toe Espadrille - a great option that will take you through the whole summer!
It's been said time and time again: a white button down shirt should be a STAPLE in every women's wardrobe. Worn with jeans, under a blazer, or my favorite way: with some some denim cut-offs to the beach, it is a closet workhorse and a true classic! In the past couple of years designer James Perse has become the go-to for this look with a casual comfortable feel. So wearable...but upwards of $100 they are more of an investment. Luckily, I recently spotted these iconic tops at TJ Maxx for at least half off. But- if you want a sure thing, I've found a near identical swap for much less at Target! I first found the shirt myself a couple years ago, and basically wear it to death. It has the same ribbed side panels which make it a perfect and comfortable fit! They come in white (which you need) but also have some other colors if you're looking for variety. Oh right, the price you ask? $23. Done.

Ever since I was old enough to understand there was such a thing as makeup, I've been wearing it. It started simple with flavored chapstick, but soon that wasn't enough. I began rummaging through my mother's makeup drawer, painting on anything I could find! Mascara, blush, eyeliner...ohhh eyeliner. One day I was almost sent home from school at age 11 when one of the nuns (Catholic School for 13 years) not-so-subtly reminded me of their no makeup policy. I, of course, did what I always do: deny, deny, deny! But it was purple eyeliner, the jig was up. Still, I like to consider myself something of a beauty expert. Fine, novice. That being said, I discovered a great swap the other day for one of the absolute most popular beauty products of all time! Cover your eyes if you're conservative, I'm talking about NARS blush in "orgasm". It's been touted as the most natural fake flush you can achieve, and I must agree it flatters all skin tones! I, myself, have been using it for years, but became even more addicted when they started packaging it with bronzer. So smart! But at 40 bucks a pop- you better make sure you don't drop it! Then, the other day I was perusing Target's beauty section looking for a cheap bronzer (I'm a chronic bronzer- especially in summer) when I discovered a practically identical pallet by e.l.f. cosmetics. How much you ask? 3 bucks. Sold! I've been using it now for a few days, the bronzer is a tad dark so use with a light touch, but the blush is great- you truly can't mess it up! For a savings of $37, run- don't walk- and pick it up for yourself now!

As I listen to the hum of the lawnmowers outside, sneeze my head off, and dab at my watery eyes, I am reminded that ahhhh- yes- it is spring! This year, it's not only looking like springtime outside, but in our closets as well! Floral patterns are prevalent this season, first spotted on the runways of Proenza Schouler, Alexander Wang, Peter Som and even J Crew among others. But fear not my fellow budget watchers! The prints have trickled down to the masses! The whole look is about being fun and flirty- so get creative with your flower power! Feel free to mix patterns (especially with my favorite stripes!) or make it easy and choose a floral dress- barely any accessorizing necessary! Now you can take some time to smell the flowers...without sneezing.

Happy Monday! I hope everyone enjoyed a lovely Mother's Day yesterday! As I went home to visit my own mother we bonded over the Today Show Mother Makeovers and coffee! Bobbie Thomas, the Today Show's style editor, did a truly phenomenal job with the makeovers- check them all out here! But, it was her own look that really caught my eye! Bobbie sported a Nanette Lepore dress and Ruthie Davis shoes. She also brought along her own mother (also sporting AMAZING Ruthie Davis shoes) and an adorable dress from Zara. Quick story about Ruthie Davis- she is also a Connecticut native, so I have a bit of an obsession with her. Davis' shoes are out of this world! Sky high, skillfully embellished, edgy and super sexy! In short- perfection! They're not cheap, but you can definitely use them as inspiration if they aren't in your budget. OK, back to Bobbie- her dress doesn't appear to be available anymore in that color, but is still available in red (also worn by Rachel Berry on Glee!). Some Style tips to pick up from these looks: you can always take your look to the next level and accentuate your waist by adding a belt. I wouldn't have thought to belt Bobbie's dress- but look how cute it is! Also, color, color, color! Whether through a belt or shoes or maybe even jewelry- add a pop of color to your outfit for a fresh look. And lastly- take the advice your mother gave you as a child: never leave your house without a smile- it's always the best accessory!

Rain, rain, go away, come again...never! It feels like it's been raining here in New England for about 2 weeks, and try as I might to not let it get me down, it's pretty dismal. It's like freakin' Noah's Ark, people! I half expect the squirrels to start marching two by two! The only way I can possibly even think to brighten my day is by wearing some cute rain gear (and catching up w/ my buddy TiVo since I can't go outside). Although we all want to throw on a hoodie and call it a day, that's really not an acceptable plan if you need to actually leave your house. So, I say we embrace the rain- hey it is supposed to usher in the May flowers, right- and make this a singing in the rain kind of day!

There are alot of singing shows out there, and to be brutally honest...I like them all! I know, I know, you are SMHing (that's shaking my head for all you non-texters) as we speak! But, I feel like they all have a little something different to offer- plus, who can get tired of those moments when a small town girl's dreams come true for the whole nation to see? Not me. Anyway, one thing they all have in common is a singing diva judge whose wardrobe I get to lust after. Today, I'm talking about Miss Christina Aguilera. Yes, she's had some major misses in the past, but is it just me or is she looking great lately? Healthy hair, glowing skin- I'm loving it! Her look earlier this week on The Voice is very glam, which maybe you don't have a place for in your everyday life, but I'm a sparkle girl, so I'll never say no to some sequins! Her look would cost you thousands of dollars, but you can easily replicate it in your own closet for those diva moments in your own life.
