Rain, rain- go away! You may have noticed that Noah and his ark didn't only arrive in theaters over the weekend...it's also here in New England! I'd love to believe this is the end of the April Fool's-like weather, but let's get real- the joke is on us, and there is likely plenty more precipitation to come over the next month. Time to upgrade your spring showers gear- with some affordable, but oh-so-chic basics!
It's here, It's here! Can you believe it? Spring has sprung! The new season officially arrived at 12:57pm and all I can think about is flowers and sunshine! The sunshine may be free, but the flowers you'll have to buy. While I'd gladly accept a bouquet from an admirer, I'm more the type to buy it for myself. But, don't forget what your wise great-grandmother always said, "Flowers die, but shoes...they last forever!" So instead of buying myself some pretty peonies (my fave- for those keeping score at home), I'd probably be better served with some spring stilettos instead. Of course, I can hear Miranda Priestly's voice from "The Devil Wears Prada" echoing in my head, "Florals? For spring? Groundbreaking." Whatever, Miranda wasn't right about everything.
Not many people are lucky enough to have a couple of friends who would agree to go to Paris on a whim. Fortunately, I am. After a couple bottles of wine one afternoon, a trio of friends decided there was no city in the world they'd rather kill a few days in than Paris, and so it was. After a magical and unforgettable, if not whirlwind, trip- here is a brief glimpse of what it takes to pack for a Parisian vacation in winter. Spoiler alert! It involves a lot of head-wear.
Stop it. Remember a few weeks ago when I told you about H&M offering online shopping?? This *might* be even better! T.J. Maxx has now opened up their e-commerce store! It was a quiet launch, with no announcement, but trust me- it's there! I heard that this was in the works a few weeks ago, but didn't get my hopes up for a couple of reasons. 1) What you find in stores is so hit or miss that you can't really rely on it 2) I love the thrill of the hunt! Finding that lone designer dress packed in the middle of mediocre clearance brands is a high I can't put into words. However, after perusing the site, I'm over the moon! All the high-end designer brands are there, so if you aren't fortunate enough to live near a T.J.'s with "The Runway"... consider this your new favorite store. For me, this will be a nice additive to my brick & mortar shopping, since I'm a huge fan of trying things on. But maybe now I won't feel the need to be quite as impulsive when purchasing. After all, I'm still paying off the gorj "Vince" sweater I put on layaway a couple weeks ago. Shop on, Maxxinistas!
If somebody were to ask me "what is your perfect day?", I would say "shopping, while sipping cocktails and spotting celebrities." Amazingly, this is exactly what I did over the weekend. And this wasn't just any shopping...this was designer discount shopping! Heaven. So what am I talking about? OCRF's celeb-studded Super Saturday event. Hosts Kelly Ripa, Donna Karan and InStyle rolled out the red carpet for us commoners and celebs alike for the 16th annual fundraising event in the Hamptons. Everyone from Nicky Hilton and Lisa Rinna to Issac Mizrahi were there perusing booths of discounted clothing, beauty products, home goods and more- all benefiting the Ovarian Cancer Research Fund. Being a savvy (read: cheap) shopper, I was in my glory as prices were slashed as the day went on. My major score? A DVF dress that I ended up getting for $50! Like, what? A fab and fashionable time was had by all!

Fashionable friends- getting our shop on
A funny thing happened. Last week I told you about my contempt for the fashion industry forcing a new season upon me as I try to enjoy my pina colada poolside. I meant it. Until I walked into Nordstrom. A sucker for a sale, I popped in to one of my fave spots to see what scores I could snag. Their anniversary sale, called the N sale, is deemed a "fashion bash"- and it is. Everything from high-end to moderately priced just-in fall pieces on sale now before the season even starts (shoes, too!)! It started innocently enough, I thought maybe a new top to throw into the mix of my stale summer wardrobe, until a beyond beautiful leather shirt beckoned me from the corner. I tried to resist. "No, beautiful oxblood leather shirt," I said, "it's 97 degrees outside. Leave me alone!". But, I couldn't. I headed to the dressing room, with the sales girl trailing, "It's real leather!" she called after me, and it felt like butter. Ultimately, I left it on the rack knowing that the sale continues for a couple more weeks. I am still lusting after it, and several other studded stunners, that I imagine will probably end up in my closet. Don't worry, I didn't leave empty-handed, though. I picked up a Wildfox "Shopping is My Cardio" t-shirt that was the one item in the store not on sale, natch. The N sale is on until August 4th, then it's back to full price.

Spring is here, spring is here...lalala! I am SO thrilled for the new season! It may still be freezing outside, but just to see the sunshine feels promising. For the past two weeks I've been sniffing suntan lotion to try and lift my spirits- glad I can let that strange addiction go now. This, of course, means it is now totally appropriate to buy bright and colorful new clothes! I don't even know where to start! Luckily, my inbox does. I woke up to a plethora of "new arrivals" from friends like J Crew, Loft, and Rockport- just to name a few. I can hardly contain myself, especially with discount code offers! Here are just a few of the things I am craving for spring!

I've talked about these amazing Valentino "Rockstud" pumps before. In fact, they are kind of all I can think about. But, by now, we know my story. Champagne taste, beer budget. Of course, I'd never be caught dead drinking beer, so my shopping M.O. is all about finding a happy medium. While perusing T.J. Maxx (aka my form of meditation) I came across a pair of totally cute and totally practical Steve Madden nude pumps with the edgy hardware I crave. They are definitely scratching that itch I've been having for studded shoes. While I was on a roll I swung over to Target and also grabbed these abso adords sneakers that I am going to wear to death on the weekends. All together I spent about $75... Compared to about $900. Done.

Some people say you can tell a lot about a person by their shoes. I have to admit, I agree. That's why I'm always looking to step up my shoe game. For example, the normal response for "how are you?" is "good, how are you?". Mine is usually something more like "Well, since you asked, I'm having a heck of a time finding boots that are casual enough to wear for day, but dressy enough to wear out at night." My point is: I'm pretty particular about my shoes. So of course when I find something great- I must share! Check out these uber-cool Isabel Marant booties. Amazing quality, trendy details- total "IT" girl shoes..at a total "IT" girl price. Until I found these totally cute and trendy booties from Zara. For a pair of shoes that you love right now, but may only like later they certainly fit the bill.
A couple outfits I've talked about before are resurfacing- so here are some updates.
I originally wrote about this dress when it was on Gossip Girl, and now the lovely Giada was seen (looking perfect) wearing it on the Today Show. Check out original post here for buying info and a good look-a-like option. Click on the pic above to watch Giada make Thanksgiving dinner!
This outfit was in this week's episode of Gossip Girl. If you are still on a perfect boot hunt (OK, I am talking ab myself!) Check out my original post with some of the options I found for less!
